Jan-April Wrap Up!

It’s May… how is it May?

As I baffle at the ever speeding time as it whips past me, dragging the year with it, let me also marvel at the progress I made with all of my projects.

If you remember, I wrote a rough guide to how I was planning out my writing year in a previous post. As I split the year up into quarters I thought it would be cool to check out how well or… not well, I had done with everything I set my sights on.

Reader, it is safe to say I am genuinely impressed with myself.

Yes, I packed a lot onto my list and it may still be a bit optimistic to assume I will achieve all my goals, but let me revel in this feeling of accomplishment because, in my opinion, I DID GOOD!

My goals were to:

Finish the first draft of The Fantasy Girl vol. 3 - Which I did, and the draft I finished came out so good, I can’t wait to whittle it down and mould it into the story I discovered along the way.

Release the new Baby Steps cover - It finally happened! The new cover is out and looks so good next to Etta!

Do final edit/tweaks of my YA Werewolf novel to prep for formatting - With mere hours to spare, I pulled this book over the finish line by the scruff of its neck. The novel is now with my formatter and the cover is getting prepared. All I have to do is start posting teasers so watch this space!

Finish the 3rd edit of my YA novel, to prep for agents - This is my only real failure and, to be honest, I don’t feel like I really failed. I realised it would be a bigger job than I had anticipated so I pushed it back. I decided to send it to agents in 2024, so for the rest of the year I’ll be steadily working on it. There’s no pressure and no rush! I’d rather pull this than pull the werewolf book!!

The biggest challenge for me was the werewolf novel and I was so surprised I managed to get it sorted in time. Not because I wasn’t trying, but life sometimes feels slippery in my hands and, like I said, time began to race faster than I could keep up. Now? All I have to do is guide it to the finish line. I am SO EXCITED!

My next quarter’s work starts THIS WEEK and it’s mostly all about publishing things and writing the next Seven Princes story so I’m excited to fall back into that dark and grimy world. Just you wait to meet the next brother. This one is going to really open the world up. I don’t actually think any of us are ready!
